I had a delicious dinner at Le Diplomate recently. It was a celebration (birthday AND anniversary), and they certainly did not disappoint. Even though it was a Wednesday evening, I made a reservation because I knew how popular this restaurant could be. The host immediately offered to lead me to our table, but I saw empty seats at the bar, and my companion and I chose to eat there. The other empty seats didn't last long! The bartender was terrific--personable but professional and knowledgeable about all the menu items. We both started out with cocktails (a Bombay Sapphire martini VERY dry for me) and then moved on to the serious business of perusing the menu. We decided on escargot for a shared appetizer. I ordered Trout Amandine, while my companion opted for Poached Scallops with Clam Consomme. We decided to accompany our entrees with a South African Chenin Blanc (Badenhorst Sacateur), which paired perfectly. We also added a side of garlic spinach, and we were glad to find it was not soggy and overcooked as other places I've had it have a tendency to do. Once again, Le Dip didn't disappoint. We rounded out the meal with Creme Brulee and many compliments to our excellent bartender/server who never missed a beat, even while keeping up with a full bar as well as drink orders from those dining at a table. This is one of my favorite French restaurants in DC and I was very happy to return. I highly recommend you give it a try.

Extremely large / fun drinks but pricey!!! Food comes out in large family style portions so probably best to come with a crowd. It was good but I probably wouldn't come back due to the price tag. I know it's DC but still.

We went to the Le Diplomate for dinner last month while in DC. We did not have a reservation, but they were able to seat us quickly on this Wednesday evening. The service was impeccable. The food was delicious (apps & dinner). The restaurant had this cool vibe and I really enjoyed my visit.

Since this restaurant is at on every list of recommendations for a meal in DC, we had to give it a try. We luckily got a reservation a couple of weeks in advance of our visit. We arrived 30 minutes early but couldn't get seated until our scheduled time. The place was slam packed the entire time we were there! The restaurant is loud, but we were seated in a quiet corner with opened windows behind us. Service was excellent and the food was very good! The only thing my husband and I didn't like were the Gougères. They were a bit bland and stale. The onion soup was very good! We both ordered the Steak Frites. The steak was cooked perfectly and the fries were good. I ordered a side of Haricots Verts that was more than enough for the two of us. It was a fun evening and we enjoyed the food, but nothing was spectacular. We're still glad we went!

I have been here dozens of great times, so I was happy to see that I could still have a refreshingly good experience. Took a seat outside at the chalets and it was sunny and quiet. Inside has much more of a buzz but also gets quite loud. Started with a latte and bread basket. Then the foie gras, which was decadent as always. Liora is well versed in hospitality and took her time explaining the menu. At her suggestion, I went with the duck hash for brunch instead of the usual eggs Benedict. Still got my hollandaise sauce fix. Finished with a kouign amann (queen a-man) pastry. Perfect start to a Sunday. Off to walk the city.

I have lived in the DMV since Le Dip opened it's doors and never been, so I jumped at the chance when my brother suggested it and then we doubled back for Mother's Day. Reservations are a must and we had them both times we went. The first time I went was on 1.31.2024 for dinner. We were sat and greeted immediately, we ordered escargot and ricotta ravioli to start, in addition to the complimentary bread they provide. The escargot is fire, it is so buttery and garlicky and they serve it with bread that is the perfect accompaniment. After finishing the escargot, you will most certainly use the bread to dip it into the buttery, garlicky leftovers! The escargot it the star of the show, but let me not hurt the ricotta ravioli's feelings, it is also very good. We ordered both of these appetizers both times I visited Le Dip. Please note that the complimentary bread they provide is also yummy! Between the two times I dined here, for entrees we got the following: mussels, cheeseburger, beef bourguignon, macaroni au gratin, scallops, grilled branzino, side of spinach, and Eggs Norwegian. The standouts were the cheeseburger, beef bourguignon, macaroni au gratin and Eggs Norwegian. On Mother's Day, Le Dip had hired an artist that randomly and discreetly drew pictures of the mothers and my mother happened to be one of the chosen ones. During our brunch, he walked over, introduced himself and provided my mom with a drawing of herself and a nice note. This detail took this review from a 3.5 to a 4. In addition to the good food, service is excellent. This is certainly a spot you should check out!

I was able to get a later reservation here on a Tuesday night at 9 pm. And when I got here, it was still busy on a Tuesday night - it seemed like a Friday night. We were seated right away. It was pretty loud, but not overly so. We were greeted by our waiter and brought waters. My sister got a drink, and we ordered the mushroom tart, the fried artichokes, and the Mac and cheese. They also brought out bread, although they really need to bring out more butter when there are more than 2 people. The food came out pretty quickly. The Mac&cheese was delicious, I liked the type of noodles they used. It was cheesy and delicious. My husband's favorite was the fried artichokes - it was crispy and delicious. We loved the aioli it came with too. The mushroom tart was our least favorite. It was slightly burnt, and it was just bland. We didn't finish it For mains, I got the beef bourguigon, and my husband got the steak au poivre. He wanted to get the Tuesday special (lobster risotto) but with it being later in the night, they were sold out. I can't remember what my sister got - but she really enjoyed it. My beef bourguigon was good, nothing too memorable. My husband's steak au poivre was perfect. The pepper was so good, and the steak was cooked perfectly. The side of garlic spinach it came with was super flavorful and well seasoned. For dessert, we got the creme brulee (because my husband is incapable of not ordering it if it's on the menu) and the profiteroles. The creme brulee was fine, but the profiteroles were our favorite. I loved the slices of banana, and the dark chocolate sauce was the perfect complement to the vanilla ice cream. My sister and I ate it all. Overall, I can see why le diplomat is ranked high among the dc restaurants. It's a place that knows what it's doing and is consistent.

Had a great dinner. Food was very yummy. We ended up having to pivot mid meal to having our entrees take away and our waitress was awesome about it. Our daughter, who the restaurant staff were very nice to, was just too tired to continue the meal. Definitely recommended.

The food, service, and ambience were amazing. The french onion soup and burger were SO good, I'll be dreaming about them until my next trip to DC. A 100% must-visit! The rave reviews are completely warranted.
